Thanks Joseph, I am kinda embarrassed that I did not mention system76 or ZaReason. I guess the problem is that I have not bought a laptop in years (work provides me with one) and I build my desktops from parts. I was also a huge fan when dell started to sell computers with Ubuntu.

I am going to buy the tablet for a project that I am working on so I don't really have time on my side sadly :(

Voting with your collars is critically important if you want to get hardware that doesn't hate Linux or which is supported. This is why I only buy ZaReason or System76 anymore.

Regarding tablets, ZaReason has said that they're going to be doing a tablet sometime late this year, if you can wait. Plus a number of Linux/Android tablets are coming out Real Soon Now too, so personally I'd wait on that purchase until all the offers are on the table.

Speaking of "voting with dollar", have you considered using Flattr for other free software that you are using ?

The ones you mention do not support Flattr AFAIK but more and more are using it. See http://raphaelhertzog.com/flattr-foss/ (shameless promo of a project of mine) as a possible starting point to find applications that you like and that are using Flattr.

@Anonymous: The Bell opt-out is bogus. What you opt-out of is the search results. In reality what they do in this context is keeping hijacking your DNS searches, but instead of the search results they display a domain not-found page that badly emulates your browser's error page. Change your browser's 'user agent' to see what I mean.
