I've been running the pre-release version, and I had this habit of writing a program that spewed an excessive number of debug files (which were bitmaps :)). You do get a warning when your drive is full, but the system was pretty unusable at this stage (I had to restart into recovery mode to delete the files). I think the idea is to make sure you never have to do that, and also to allow more configuration with the messages (e.g. if you have a drive which is nearly full, but you don't care, you might want to turn off the messages for that particular drive...
